This little lake is connected to Ensign Lake to the southwest by a nearly three mile long creek. This is a remote lake and will be difficult to reach. Bedford is a borough in south-central England. The name is perhaps derived from that location.
Approach to Bedford Lake
The shortest approaches are from either Skoota Lake or Missionary Lake. A third approach, which would probably take an entire day, is to start at Ensign Lake and follow the creek upstream for nearly three miles to Bedford Lake.
Bushwhack to Bedford Lake
These bushwhacking suggestions are simply an opinion. From Skoota Lake, head to the small pond that is just west of Grubstake Lake. From this small pond, strike out southwest toward the northeast end of Bedford Lake. This is roughly 100 rods of bushwhacking through dense forest. The other way is to come from the southeast shore near the northeast end of Missionary Lake. This is also about 100 rods of hardcore bushwhacking. From this direction you want to reach the large open peat bog to the northwest of Bedford Lake and then proceed along the obvious route from there. The third route would be to follow the creek that connects Bedford Lake with Ensign Lake. This is about 1,000 rods of bushwhacking and paddling so expect to spend most of the day if you choose to take this path. Much of this creek is floatable in a canoe, but there is plenty of bushwhacking to be done and certainly many beaver dams to liftover.
