RIB LAKE CAMPSITES: Campsite 1 (#560): Only campsite on lake along east shoreline
Rib Lake is kind of similar to Cross Bay Lake in that both of these lakes are more like flowages; they are just wide points along a river. There is no current to speak of once into either of these lakes, but there are rapids leading into them (thus the portages).
Rib Lake flows north into Cross Bay Lake through a series of rapids and over an fair sized waterfall, a drop of 27 feet overall. The water entering Rib Lake comes from Lower George Lake (and Karl Lake and Long Island Lake further to the south) and also from George Lake via a long creek that flows in from points eastward.
There is only one campsite on Rib Lake.
There used to be an old logging era trail that ran from the northeast corner of Rib Lake to Dawkins Lake.

PADDLING FROM THE CROSS BAY LAKE PORTAGE TO THE ONLY CAMPSITE ON THE LAKE
A view of the narrow north end of Rib Lake from the Cross Bay Lake portage. The water of Rib Lake flows out to the right through that channel. This is early spring (May).
Looking toward the south from the northern most bay of Rib Lake on a mostly sunny day in mid-June.
Paddling south through Rib Lake from the Cross Bay Lake portage at the north end of the lake, to the sole campsite on Rib Lake along its eastern shoreline.
Large glacial erratics visible below the water and along the shoreline of Rib Lake.
Small cliff along the north shore/west side of the lake, just as you are entering the wider southern part of Rib Lake.
Prominent rock sticking out of the water near the west shoreline. Visit the Campsite -or- Explore Another Route **********************************************END OF ROUTE***********************************************
PADDLING FROM THE LAKES ONLY CAMPSITE TO THE LOWER GEORGE LAKE PORTAGE
A short paddle from the lakes only campsite to the Lower George Lake portage near the south end of Rib Lake.
Rib Lake from the Lower George Lake portage. Notice that the portage starts back in this bay a ways. The main lake is visible here in the distance to the upper left of your view. Stream/river is flowing in just to the right over some rapids. As nice of a portage landing as you will find. The large log you see here (one of several) in the foreground is from an old dock that used to extend out into the lake from the portage.
