Portaging Direction: From Cross Bay Lake to Rib Lake
Pleasant landing and clear water. The current from the rapids to the right of this portage landing does not affect this spot.
An easy 58 rodder from Cross Bay Lake to Rib Lake. The portage starts to the left of the rapids. (The version on your left is May 12, 2016. The version on the right is June 16, 2019.)
While the landing on the Rib Lake end is rocky, it is not terribly difficult to find a nook or cranny in which to launch your canoe. The rapids start down the channel to the right of this location (over your right shoulder), and the current isn't strong enough to be a concern at this location. (View is in mid-May.)
You may have better luck launching your canoe from the far left side of the boulder field here on Rib Lake (Nearly same view as above, but in mid-June).

Portaging Direction: From Rib Lake to Cross Bay Lake
The boulder infested landing on the Rib Lake side of the portage. It looks worse than it is. The water is not deep and there are several places to sneak a canoe into the water. Ya just gotta be strategic about it.
A mildly downhill and easy walking portage from Rib Lake to Cross Bay Lake. This portage is 58 rods. (The version on your left is May 12, 2016. The version on the right is June 16, 2019.)
The landing at Cross Bay Lake is golden. The rapids are just out of view to your left. A good campsite is just upshore on that point to your right. (May 12, 2016.)
