Hungry Jack Lake
Gunflint Ranger District
Hungry Jack Lake is not in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, but it is often used by paddlers who are lodging on this lake and then making their way into the BWCA.
Hungry Jack Canoe Outfitters and Cabins is located on the south shore of this lake. The Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground can be found on the north shore of the lake, accessible from Hungry Jack Road.
You can access the Moss Lake Trail from Hungry Jack Lake. To do this, take the portage to Moss Lake. There trail intersects that portage.
Logging occurred on Hungry Jack Lake predominantly in the 1920's and 1930's. This area was worked by the General Logging Company. Access was provided by spurs being built into the area by the existing Alger-Smith Company railroad (Heinselman).
Hungry Jack Lake drains to the north into West Bearskin Lake through a short creek channel. Leo Lake feeds Hungry Jack Lake through a creek flowing into the west end of the lake. Hungry Jack is always hungry for more water afterall.
