The Portage between Hungry Jack Lake and West Bearskin Lake
Portaging Direction: From Hungry Jack Lake to West Bearskin Lake
Wide landing with shallow water and a firm lake bottom.
Shortly after leaving Hungry Jack Lake, the portage crosses Hungry Jack Lake Road and enters the parking lot for the Duncan Lake and Daniels Lake entry points. The portage cuts through the parking lot. The last 10 rods or so are along a typical portage trail to the shore of West Bearskin Lake.
This is a great landing (albeit a few boulders) as would be expected of a BWCA entry point.
Portaging Direction: From West Bearskin Lake to Hungry Jack Lake
Quality landing on West Bearskin Lake end of this portage.
A short hike up the trail gets you to the parking lot. The portage passes through the parking lot, then crosses Hungry Jack Lake Road and finishes with a short stretch to the shore of Hungry Jack Lake. The whole trail is nearly level.
The landing at Hungry Jack Lake is excellent.
