Little John Lake

Gunflint Ranger District

Small lake that lies just outside of the BWCA. This lake is the location of the BWCA Entry Point 69 and Entry Point 70 landings. Paddlers must paddle across Little John Lake to enter the Boundary Waters from these entry points.

The Crocodile River flows into the south end of Little John Lake from McFarland Lake and flows out the north tip of the lake into John Lake where it empties into the Royal River.

The lake is located on the north side of the McFarland Lake Campground.

Route Connections for Little John Lake

From Little John Lake you can take an optional portage into John Lake (or just paddle through the channel, conditions permitting). You can also exit the BWCA here at the BWCA Entry Point 69 and Entry Point 70 canoe landing. You can access the Border Route Trail from the entry point parking lot. The Crocodile River flows through Little John Lake.
