Upper Arrow Lake 1
This is the northern most in a line of three lakes stretching towards the south all connected by Arrow Creek. There is not much information on Upper Arrow Lake. A bit more exists for the other two Arrow Lakes.
This area was scorched by the 2011 Pagami Creek Fire that burned much of the southwestern part of the BWCA and was the largest fire in recorded history at about 100,000 acres (almost 10% of the entire BWCA).
There was a large fire in this area around 1863-1864. This fire is known as the North Kawishiwi River/Alice Lake/Cypress Lake/Saganaga Lake Complex. This burn began south of the current BWCAW's southern boundary near the town of Isabella, Minnesota.
Approach to Upper Arrow Lake (Arrow Lake 1)
Starting from Lake Insula, the entire approach to Upper Arrow Lake (Arrow Lake 1) is paddling and bushwhacking up Arrow Creek. See the Arrow Creek page for details on traveling along this waterway.

The bushwhack into Upper Arrow Lake (Arrow Lake 1) involves a long paddle and bushwhack via Arrow Creek beginning at Lake Insula.
Exploring Upper Arrow Lake (Arrow Lake 1)
Have no information on Upper Arrow Lake (Arrow Lake 1). It is probably similar to the other two Arrow Lakes further south.
