Flame Lake is a small dead end lake with a single campsite just north of Burnt Lake. It is the smallest of the three lakes in the area with names related to "fire". The portage into the lake is in good condition, perhaps slightly overgrown at times. There is a single campsite on the lakes south shoreline. The lake supposedly has some decent northern pike in it which feed off the various minnow species found within. No other gamefish species are present.
Topographically the lake has low forest along the south and west shores. The north shore has some wetland and also has a small creek flowing into the lake in that area. You can follow that creek if you are willing to liftover a few beaver dams. It leads to a remote pond. The eastern shoreline is the most rugged with a few modest rock faces overlooking the lake.
Flame Lake does not appear to have any obvious outflows, a land locked lake.
Sporadic logging lasted in this area until as recently as the 1960's.

PADDLING CLOCKWISE AROUND PERIMETER OF LAKE BEGINNING AND ENDING AT BURNT LAKE PORTAGE
These cliffs are very close to the Burnt Lake portage.
Low forest that extends back from the western and northern shores of Flame Lake. The eastern shore of the lake is more rugged with some modest cliffs and various rock formations.
View is from the point in the northeast part of the lake. You are looking southeast toward Flame Lake's small island, that is close to its eastern shore.
Starting at the Burnt Lake portage in the southeast corner of the lake, paddle counterclockwise around the entire lake. The campsite along the south shore of the lake was occupied. On the north side of the lake, venture into a creek and paddle it until reaching the first beaver dam. After leaving the creek, paddle over to the eastern shoreline and pass by the lakes small island. Continue south along the east shoreline until you get back to the portage to Burnt Lake.
After a short paddle up the creek that flows into the middle of the north end of Flame Lake, you come to this beaver dam. This creek is mostly navigable (except these beaver dam liftovers) up to small pond about one-quarter mile upstream.
A look back downstream from near the first beaver dam in the direction of Flame Lake.
The east shoreline of Flame Lake, looking southward. The lakes small island is on the right side of your view. This is probably the most scenic area of this lake.
Rocky point that is just north of the Burnt Lake portage. View is also to the north. The lakes small island is just to the right of the center of your view.
