Horseshoe Lake
Kawishiwi Ranger District
HORSESHOE LAKE CAMPSITES:
Campsite 1 (#1518): Westernmost campsite on the lake and accessible from the Powwow Trail
Campsite 2 (#1519): Easternmost campsite on this lake
Lake gets its name from its shape. There is another Horseshoe Lake in the eastern BWCA which is near Caribou Lake and Vista Lake.
Except for a thing patch of forest between Horseshoe Lake and Lake Three, the rest of the entire shoreline of Horseshoe Lake was burned during the 2011 Pagami Creek Fire.
The campsite on the western end of the lake is accessible to hikers of the Powwow Trail. That trail runes along the west end of the lake and intersects the portage between Lake Three and Horseshoe Lake.
The portage to Lake Three is relatively flat and easy. The portage to Brewis Lake isn't used much, but it does exist.
There were a lot of beavers swimming around the lake when visited in spring of 2024.
