Mantle Lake
Have not yet visited this Primitive Management Area lake. The information displayed on this page are notes used for planning a future trip to this area. Use the information on this page at your own risk.
This lake is most conveniently accessed from Charm Lake. There is a creek flowing out of Mantle Lake to the northeast that traces a thin line through forest and peat bog for about a mile before emptying into Ge-be-on-a-quet Creek just south of Lac La Croix. This would be the hard way to get to Mantle Lake..
Mantle Lake and Charm Lake are not connected; each drains in a different direction. Their waters however both end up in Lac La Croix via Ge-be-on-a-quet Creek.
Either of these little lakes would serve as a nice campsite for those seeking solitude. None of the few trip reports that exist about this area seem to indicate any established campsites on these lakes.
This area of the BWCA has escaped fire for a long time. The most recent fire was in 1755. That fire is known as the Big Moose, Oyster and Lac La Croix complex. Another fire affected the area in 1681.

Bushwhack to Mantle Lake
Do not know if there is any kind of trail that could ease the amount of effort required to bushwhack from Charm Lake into Mantle Lake. Regardless, it is only about 20 rods.
Exploring Mantle Lake
Like Charm Lake, Mantle Lake offers some guaranteed solitude for those wishing to camp just a little off the beaten path in the BWCA. You must have a valid permit to camp in a Primitive Management Area and it must be for the correct zone.
