Drag Lake
Drag Lake is a short ways to the east of Fire Lake and a stepping stone if your destination is the more remote Museum Lake. This little lake is quite accessible from Fire Lake. The name of the lake could come from the fishing term or perhaps refers to "drag the lakes bottom". These are just guesses.
The forest fires of 1885-1889 affected the area from Fire Lake up to Disappointment Lake.
A fire in 1910 burned a swath of forest from the Horseshoe/Wilder Lake area and move north, burning the forests around Parent Lake and Disappointment Lake.
Fire burned the region in 1916-1917 centered on the Drumstick Creek drainage and forest just to its east.
Approach to Drag Lake
Head to the eastern end of Fire Lake where the creek flows in. This creek drains Drag Lake.
Bushwhack to Drag Lake
A nice little creek connects Drag Lake to Fire Lake. For at least the first 60 rods coming from Fire Lake, this creek is mostly navigable (perhaps a beaver dam or two). The last 50 rods, the creek appears less floatable from examination of satellite images. A relatively easy bushwhack can be expected.
Exploring Drag Lake
Given the relative ease of reaching this lake, there is surprising little data to be found on Drag Lake. The lake has one small island and probably resembles a smaller version of Fire Lake. But who knows for sure until someone actually goes there and reports back. Drag Lake is a jumping off point to Museum Lake. There are two large ponds/peat bog hybrids connected by a creek due east of Drag Lake. The route out to Museum Lake probably involves plodding/paddling through those two bogs.
