Portaging Direction: From Mud Lake to the Four Mile Portage
The portage is located along the north shore of the lake, about 1/4 west of the Ella Hall Lake portage. The landing on Mud Lake is rocky, but provides good footing in shallow water. Quite manageable (July 22, 2018).
Portage is a bit overgrown. Mud Lake appears to receive far fewer visitors than neighboring Ella Hall Lake (August 2, 2024).

Portaging Direction: From the Four Mile Portage to Mud Lake
The intersection of the Mud Lake portage with the Four Mile Portage. It is very easy to see this trail when passing this intersection, but there are no landmarks in the area. So if you miss it, you'll probably miss it by a lot (July 22, 2018).
The portage is mildly difficult. The trail is overgrown in places and often has a fair amount of deadfall, depending on when it was last cleared by the portage crews. The portage is otherwise mostly flat, with only small undulations in elevation (August 2, 2024).
This is older video footage of this portage (July 22, 2018).
