Portaging Direction: From Kroft Lake to Ram Lake
Lots of boulders pretty much sums up the portage landing at the Kroft Lake end. The water is shallow enough to stand in.
This is the second easiest portage between Ram Lake and Misquah Lake. The only one that is easier will be the portage from Kroft Lake to Rum Lake. This portage has a relatively bad landing on each end. This is due to large rocks and the necessity to lift your gear up from water level. The portage trail is somewhat rocky. There is little to no mud. Elevation changes are common...up and down. You lose about 20 to 30 feet of elevation going from Kroft Lake to Ram Lake.
More rocks and a small ledge to hop down at this end of the portage. The view makes up for it though.

Portaging Direction: From Ram Lake to Kroft Lake
You can use the flat rock on the left as a dock for this portage landing. A big step up from the water to get on the portage path. Water here isn't very deep, you can stand in it if close to shore.
This is a moderately rocky trail that ascends about 20 to 30 feet over its length up to Kroft Lake. The landings on both ends of the portage are ledges with lots of boulders. You won't find any sand beaches in these parts. Portage trail is well drained so mud is not an issue. These portages get a little bit overgrown by late summer, as this is not a heavily used route.
Arrival at Kroft Lake. More rocks and boulders to greet you here. This lake is shallow and its water has a murky tint.
