The portage from Green Lake to Bat Lake can be started from two locations. This is the landing area that makes for the longest haul. If you follow the channel up to the right of your canoe, there is another landing. However, this landing is only available with good water levels. The water levels you see here were just slightly too low to make it worth the effort to paddle up the channel you see leading off into the grass.
The first part of this portage is often optional. You only need to do this part when water levels are low. If water levels are good, you can paddle the channel you see to your right rather than walk along its bank. The ground through here is fairly squishy, but not overly difficult.
The second part of the Green Lake to Bat Lake portage begins at the western end of the channel. This is a normal portage and is a pretty short and flat carry through the woods.
