The Portage between Clearwater Lake and Mountain Lake
Portaging Direction: From Clearwater Lake to Mountain Lake
Fine gravel, coarse and and some small boulders make up the landing. The water is clear and shallow for easy footing.
From the canoe landing, you'll head up a flight of stairs. Once at the top of the stairway, the portage continues to climb about 100 feet in total to the top of a ridge that separates Mountain Lake to the north from Clearwater Lake to the south. From the ridge, it's downhill the rest of the way to Mountain Lake. The Border Route Trail intersects this portage near the midway point.
You can't ask for a much better spot than this to launch or land your boat..

Portaging Direction: Mountain Lake to Clearwater Lake
You should enjoy this great landing while you can, because the portage is a steep one.
From Mountain Lake ascend about 100 feet to the top of a ridgeline. From the summit of the ridge, descend about 100 feet down to Clearwater Lake. There is a stairway just before reaching Clearwater Lake. You will cross the Border Route Trail about mid-portage.
Another good landing on this end of the portage too.
