Portaging Direction: From Clearwater Lake to Deer Lake
Rocky boulder strewn landing in shallow, clear water.
Long portage that follows an old road bed for much of the distance. The portage initially starts off rocky and somewhat muddy. There is a turn-off to Caribou Lake after about 50 rods. Beyond that point, the portage tread is in better condition. Really good landing at Deer Lake. Landing at the Clearwater Lake end is a bit rocky, but otherwise manageable.
Excellent landing at Deer Lake next to the lakes only campsite.

Portaging Direction: From Deer Lake to Clearwater Lake
Awesome landing area. This is next to the only campsite on Deer Lake.
After maybe 30 rods since leaving Deer Lake, you'll see another trail veer off to the right and head downhill. This is the portage to Caribou Lake. If you are headed to Clearwater Lake, don't take the turn off. Keep walking down this long flat portage that likely follows and old road bed. About 150 rods into the portage, give or take, you'll see another trail head off to the right. Following this will also lead you to Caribou Lake, but further west. That path is the last part of the portage between Clearwater Lake and Caribou Lake. Continuing another 50 rods or so past that last turnoff and you arrive at your final destination, Clearwater Lake. The final part of the portage is rocky and sometimes muddy.
Rock strewn landing, but water is shallow and clear, so easy to stand in if necessary.
