Portaging Direction: From Cherokee Lake to Gordon Lake
Portage landing at Cherokee Lake offers a nice shallow hard surfaced landing.
A simple and short portage from Cherokee Lake to Gordon Lake. Once over this portage there are typically few other paddlers until you reach Long Island Lake.
Looking south at Gordon Lake. There is a small waterfall around the corner to your right where the stream coming from Cherokee Lake flows in (this may actually be the Long Island River).

The slimy stuff in the water is pollen. This landing has a few boulders but will not present any trouble for you. Bottom is gravel and the water is shallow for easy canoe exit and entry. A small series of rapids enters Gordon Lake around the corner to the left.
Portage from Gordon Lake south to Cherokee Lake. A flat and otherwise unremarkable portage. Landing on the Cherokee Lake side is even better.
A good view of Cherokee Lake. You can see about 2/3rd's of a mile south from here to that far shoreline, which is actually a large island.
