Portaging Direction: From Brant Lake to Gotter Lake
The nice landing spot on Brant Lake that marks the beginning of the portage to Gotter Lake. This is an 88 rod portage. It is rocky and rolling and fairly strenuous.
View of the wetland that extends east of Gotter Lake (June 2020).
A wetland along the Brant Lake to Gotter Lake portage as you would see it in October. This wetland is actually considered a tongue of Gotter Lake and probably contains some water during wet periods (October 2015).
The map says its an 88 rod portage from Brant Lake to Gotter Lake. Probably more like 110 rods. This is a somewhat strenuous portage due the rocky nature of the trail, its length and because of the need to gain and lose some elevation several times over its course. There is a worthwhile view along the trail, about 30 rods from the Gotter Lake end of the portage. Good place to rest (June 2020).
Same portage as shown above, but this is in October 2015.
You reach Gotter Lake. Everything to the right is burned by the 2006 Cavity Lake Fire. The location of the Flying Lake portage is in the distance, over to the right from where you stand.

Walking the portage from Gotter Lake to Brant Lake. This is a rough one with lots of boulders, muck and brush to push through. There is a nice viewing location along the way of some cliffs rising above the wetland that is to the east of Gotter Lake (June 2020).
This is the same portage as shown above, but at a different time of year (October 2015).
