Approaching the old railroad loading pier that extends out from what is now the Four Mile Portage. The start of the Four Mile Portage is visible as the sand bar to the right of the pier. This structure was built in the early 1900's.
Close up of the remains of the old supports for the loading pier. This was used for loading by a short railway that ran between Fall Lake and Basswood Lake. Used by the St. Croix and Swallow and Hopkins Lumber Company's.
