BENEZIE LAKE CAMPSITES: Campsite 1 (#2247): The western campsite on this lake Campsite 2 (#2248): The eastern campsite on this lake
The lakes name may be derived from the Ojibwe word 'binesi (na)', which means raptor (such as a hawk or eagle) or perhaps thunderbird.
The western campsite on this lake is quite poor. The eastern campsite is just 'OK'. Both of the campsites on Becoosin Lake (just to the west down the hiking trail) are better than what you'll find on Benezie Lake.
One reason to stay on this lake is that the fishing is better. Benezie Lake contains some decent northern pike. There are only yellow perch in Becoosin Lake.
Blowdown from recent windstorms is extensive around Benezie Lake.
