Topper Lake
Gunflint Ranger District
TOPPER LAKE CAMPSITES:
Campsite 1 (#608): This is the only campsite on the lake. It is just east of the South Lake portage.
Portaging from South Lake to Topper Lake involves an elevation gain of about 250 feet over a rocky 80 rod portage. The portage from Mayhew Lake Road to Topper Lake climbs over a small hill. This portage can be brushy and muddy depending on the season.
Topper Lake is stocked every year with roughly 2,500 brook trout fingerling by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The water from Topper Lake flows out through a small creek just west of the South Lake portage. This creek tumbles nearly 250 feet in a short distance until flowing into South Lake.
