Landing canoe here poses no problems. The campsite is just a stones throw from the mouth of the Long Island River. It is far enough away and secluded enough that canoeists passing by into the river shouldn't cause much disturbance. The view isn't bad either. From here you can see almost two miles to the east down the lake.
From the canoe landing you even get a stairway to the upper part of the campsite.
While the canoe landing and the beach are awesome, the rest of this campsite leaves something to be desired. On a busy weekend, this is probably one of the last campsites to get "camped". The cooking area and sleeping area are back in the woods at the top of the stairway. Expect bugs here due to the shade. There is little breeze coming off the lake up to the main campsite area. The log furnitue is shot.
The campsite area around the fire grate is grassy because the site receives minimal use. On the positive side, the location is not heavily eroded and picked over like many other campsites on Long Island Lake. Tree branches are available for hanging food packs.
Walking around the campsite. This is a pretty small campsite with a great beach and canoe landing. The rest isn't too spectacular.
Maybe room for one more small tent back here in the woods a the base of this large pine.
Probably the best spot to pitch a tent at this site. The grass might be a conduit for bugs though...so maybe preferred by entomologists.
