Parley is a small, shallow lake a couple hundred feet from the Beartrap River.
A very small fire occurred in this area in 2012 that was controlled by the U.S. Forest Service. Fire only burned about 35 acres. I believe the fire occurred on the southeast side of Parley Lake and perhaps also burned the small grove of trees that stood out in the peat bog just to the west of the tiny creek that connects Parley Lake to the Beartrap River.
The known fires in this region were the 1894 fires (possibly two of them) that are known as the Oriniack/Sioux River/Lac La Croix/Crooked Lake complex and the Chad/Cummings/Lac La Croix/Crooked Lake complex. In 1875 the Mule Creek/Sterling Lake/Sunday Lake/Crooked Lake complex burned much of the area. Eleven years prior to that, in 1864, the Little Indian Sioux River/Lac La Croix/Crooked Lake complex burned here. The oldest fire known to affect the area occurred in 1822 and is referred to as the Hook Lake/Hegman Lake/Crooked Lake complex.
Approach to Parley Lake
Parley Lake can be accessed from the Beartrap River via a small creek.
Bushwhack to Parley Lake
Bushwhacking into Parley Lake simply requires following the tiny creek for about 10 rods that connects it to the Beartrap River. This creek traverses a peat bog and may be too narrow for a canoe. It should be simply matter to cross the peat bog into Parley Lake.
Exploring Parley Lake
Parley Lake is mostly a pitstop along the Beartrap River. May be worth investigating the location of the 2012 fire that occurred here.
