The Portage between Weird Lake and Jack Lake
Portaging Direction: From Weird Lake to the Temperance River
A fine grained sandy landing on Weird Lake. This is the start of the short 12 rod portage to the Temperance River. The rapids just downstream from Weird Lake start just to your left.
Rapids snake around a small island visible from the short portage just downstream of Weird Lake.
This 12 rod portage is simple enough and there are nice views of the rapids. The landing on the downstream end of this portage can be troublesome.
View of the Temperance River just below the rapids. The portage landing here is on a slanted slab of rock. The rock is slanted just enough to make the whole thing a bit more difficult. Add in some rain like you have here and it is a slippery ordeal. There is still enough current here combined with deep water that you need to be methodical about loading and unloading at this end of the portage.

The spot in the very lower right of your view is the best location for getting your canoe in and out of the water at this portage. That little pile of rocks is about as far up as you want to go. The water gets deeper and faster by those rapids quite quickly; the rock slope is steeper under the surface there too.
A pretty view of the rapids to your right as you go over this 12 rod portage. The portage is not otherwise notable.
Weird Lake greets you with a sandy beach for a portage landing. The campsite on Weird Lake is in the middle of your view just as you clear that narrow stretch in the distance to the right.
