Portaging Direction: From Rice Lake to Slim Lake

A mildly rocky landing. Water is shallow and you can get your canoe up close to the shoreline without trouble. No serious issues with footing in the water.

This portage is fairly flat. There are a couple of rocky sections, most notably near the Slim Lake end of the portage. A few giant pine trees add to the scenery along the trail.

You have arrived at Slim Lake. Probably not anyone's favorite canoe landing, but it's not horrible. Quite rocky as you can see. A few underwater logs, rocks and branches as you leave the shore and head out into open waters.

Portaging Direction: From Slim Lake to Rice Lake

A very smooth landing at this end of the portage. After you unload your canoe and shoulder your packs, this trail will lose its charm.

There is a short rocky section to deal with right after leaving Slim Lake. Another brief rock garden closer to Rice Lake. The portage is relatively flat and at 52 rods, is not terribly long. The path is well worn.

A mediocre landing with some rocks to balance on. Loading and getting the canoe in the lake is easy in the shallow water.
