Portaging Direction: From Range Lake to the Range River
The landing here on Range Lake is just to the left of where the Range River flows out of the lake. The landing is perfectly functional.
The portage between Range Lake and the Range River is very flat. It can be a little overgrown. This used to be an old railroad spur, thus its flatness as trains don't like hills. You may see some old relicts from this area along the portage. Follow this trail about 145 rods toward Sandpit Lake. About 15 rods before reaching Sandpit Lake, you will come to an intersection. Take a right. It's about 10 rods or so to the landing on the Range River. This last 10 rods is also easy, but can have a muddy spot or two.
You get to launch your canoe from a beach on the Range River. Go to the left after you get moving.

Portaging Direction: From the Range River to Range Lake
A very smooth landing at this end of the portage. The actual portage is even smoother.
After you shoulder your gear and canoe, head down the portage. In about 10 rods you will come to an intersection. You may have to tiptoe around a mud hole or two in this short section. At the intersection, take a left. Proceed for about 145 rods to Range Lake over one of the flatest portages you've ever walked.
