Portaging Direction: From Mudro Lake to Fourtown Lake
From Mudro Lake, its a rock strewn 30 rods to a quiet section of the creek a bit closer to Fourtown Lake. This portage could be inundated with water if there has been a lot of rain or a heavy spring melt (Note: This video is a bit shaky).
The first 30 rod portage, which is a boulder hop, is shown here. This whole portage is through a gorge. Common to see bald eagles here, especially in the spring.
After finishing the first 30 rod portage coming from Mudro Lake, paddle your canoe along a short section of the creek until you get to the start of the 141 rod portage. This much longer trail is the middle of the three portages along this route.
Standing at the upstream end (Mudro Lake side) of the 141 rod portage, between Mudro Lake and Fourtown Lake. The actual trail is just to your right from this viewpoint (not shown). You are looking towards the south.
Traveling north, in the downstream direction, along the west side of the creek. This portage is 141 rods and rises up above the creek and hugs the cliff line. Some impressive views are to be had along its length.
Between the 141 rod portage and the 10 rod portage just before Fourtown Lake, you must paddle another short section of the creek.
You are at the start of the 30 rod portage (it is shown as 10 rods on maps) that leads from the creek, to the very south end of Fourtown Lake.
After picking up your canoe, traverse the final 30 rods to the south end of Fourtown Lake. Fourtown Lake stretches to the north for more than two miles.
