Portaging Direction: From Mudro Lake to Fourtown Lake
This is the portage landing on the Mudro Lake end of the portage to (Fourtown Creek). This would be the start of the first of three portages if you are headed to Fourtown Lake. There is another landing for this portage just downstream from here, but you need perfect water levels to make it worth using. If water is too low, you will have to walk through water to reach it. If water is really high, there will be a lot of current sweeping you towards the rapids that are just a bit further downstream. Thus, this landing (shown in photo above) is probably the best choice in most cases (June 22, 2025).
From Mudro Lake, its a rock strewn 30 rods to a quiet section of the creek a bit closer to Fourtown Lake. This portage could be inundated with water if there has been a lot of rain or a heavy spring melt (June 22, 2025).
Older video footage of this portage (May 2, 2015).
The first 30 rod portage from Mudro Lake to (Fourtown Creek), which is a boulder hop, is shown here. This whole portage is through a gorge. Common to see bald eagles here, especially in the spring. View is looking upstream (May 2, 2015).
This view is looking upstream from the portage landing along Fourtown Creek. This is the 30 portage from Mudro Lake to (Fourtown Creek). The first of three portages if headed downstream to Fourtown Lake (June 22, 2025).
After finishing the first 30 rod portage coming from Mudro Lake, paddle your canoe along a short section of the creek until you get to the start of the 141 rod portage. This much longer trail is the middle of the three portages along this route (June 22, 2025).
This video shows the same section of the creek as the one above, but is about a decade older (May 2, 2015).

Downstream end of the 141 rod middle portage along (Fourtown Creek) (June 22, 2025).
Between the 141 rod portage and the 10 rod portage just before Fourtown Lake, you must paddle another short section of (Fourtown Creek) (May 2, 2015).
You are at the start of the 30 rod portage (it is shown as 10 rods on many maps) that leads from the creek, to the very south end of Fourtown Lake (May 2, 2015).
After picking up your canoe, traverse the final 30 rods to the south end of Fourtown Lake. Fourtown Lake stretches to the north for more than two miles from here (May 2, 2015).
