The Portage between Little Rush Lake and Rush Lake
Portaging Direction: From Little Rush Lake to Rush Lake
Lots of squishyness on this end of the portage and some rock obstacles.
Trail climbs moderately in this direction gaining a total of 14 feet before reaching Rush Lake. The first 10 rods are through woods and then the sky opens up above you as the portage enters the area burned by the 2007 Ham Lake Fire. Very good landing at Rush Lake.
Not much to say about this landing, the picture speaks for itself.

Portaging Direction: From Rush Lake to Little Rush Lake
One of the better canoe landings to be found in the string of lakes heading west of the Skipper Lake entry point.
The trail is meanders through recently burned forest after leaving Rush Lake. There is a short section where the portage loses a bit of elevation in a quick spurt. The trail then levels out as it enters some intact forest right before reaching the Little Rush Lake landing.
If water levels are low, there could be a wide stretch of mud here. Boulders above and below the water create a few navigation hazards.
