Great landing. This image was during a period of low water levels (October 6, 2024).

Jack Lake to Kelly Lake Portage 1
Older image of the nice canoe landing on Jack Lake at the start of the portage to Kelly Lake (May 27, 2016).

Easy walking portage. The landing on the Jack Lake end is awesome, landing on Kelly Lake not so awesome but manageable. Be sure to visit the Frank Johnson Mine. The start of the trail to the mine starts at the Jack Lake landing (October 6, 2024).

This is older footage of this portage. (Note: Carry is with canoe which limits visibility in this video.) This is an easy portage of 65 rods. There is very little elevation change along the route. The treadway is mostly just packed dirt and makes for good walking. There is an old mine entrance near this portage. There is a short path from the portage leading to it (May 27, 2016).

Boulder and rock quarry landing on the Kelly Lake end of this portage (October 6, 2024).

Jack Lake to Kelly Lake Portage 2
Kelly Lake (part of the Temperance River). From the end of the portage from Jack Lake, you can only paddle to the right (south). The landing on Kelly Lake is a sea of large boulders, but they are spaced enough to make wedging a canoe between them for stabilization doable (May 27, 2016).

Jack Lake to Kelly Lake Portage 12
Rock pile for a landing zone. This image was taken during low water levels. Water doesn't get deep as quickly when water levels are down.

Jack Lake to Kelly Lake Portage 3
You should be able to find a place between these boulders to poke your canoe into. The water gets deep fairly quick of the edge here, so make sure you're stable before egress. This was during the spring and the water was high. You'll really like the landing on the Jack Lake end of this portage. Really (May 27, 2016).

Portage is flat and gentle. You'll find an excellent landing at Jack Lake. The landing on Kelly Lake is poor because of all the boulders. Check out the Frank Johnson Mine near the Jack Lake end of the portage. There is a short trail through the forest leading to the mine from the portage (October 6, 2024).

Jack Lake to Kelly Lake Portage 14
Near perfect landing on Jack Lake (October 6, 2024).

Jack Lake to Kelly Lake Portage 4
Looking straight north up Jack Lake. There is a little chute you must paddle through, which is found in that notch in the distance. The landing on this end of the portage is bomber (that means it is good and solid, mostly made of sand in fact) (May 27, 2016).
