Portaging Direction: From Gordon Lake to Long Island River
Landing is good. There is not a lot of current here as you enter the Long Island River from Gordon Lake.
A flat portage necessary to circumvent some rapids. There are a few boulders to dodge and the portage can have a muddy spot or two.
The Long Island River looking north (downstream). The landing area is full of boulders, but there are enough gaps to make launching canoe fairly straightforward. The rapids flow in just to the right of your view.
Portaging Direction: From Long Island River to Gordon Lake
The boulder infested landing on the Long Island River side of the portage to Gordon Lake. It looks worse than it is as the water is pretty shallow. You may have to get your feet wet, but footing is solid.
Portage is flat with a couple muddy spots. There is no current to deal with at either end of the portage as the landing spots aren't that close to where the rapids form.
View of Gordon Lake from the portage landing looking south. This is a scenic lake. There is a campsite just to the left around the corner. The portage to Unload Lake (and Frost Lake) is to the right, a short paddle away.
