Portaging Direction: From French Lake to Gillis Lake

French-Gillis-Portage 1
Despite the large boulders you see here, the landing is actually decent. The water is shallow and has a sandy bottom right up to where the boulders start.

A very straightforward portage. Relatively flat and short. No obstructions. Both landings are good.

French-Gillis-Portage 2
A windswept Gillis Lake. A few cobbles in the water, but good landing spot for the most part.

Portaging Direction: From Gillis Lake to French Lake

An easy 13 rods. Hardly time to swat a mosquito. Landings are good at both ends. The boulders at the French Lake landing aren't much of an impediment. The water is shallow and the bottom is sandy right up to those boulders.

French-Gillis-Portage 3
The French Lake end of the portage.
