The Portage between BWCA Entry Point 9 and the Little Indian Sioux River

Portaging Direction: From BWCA Entry Point 9 parking lot to the Little Indian Sioux River

Follow the parking lot access road the short distance back to the Echo Trail. Note: Another portage along the Little Indian Sioux River headed northbound is located right where the access road turns to the right in the middle of your view. That portage is marked by a sign saying 'Trail'. Do not go that way if you have a permit for BWCA Entry Point 9 - Little Indian Sioux South.

Walk out of the parking lot along the very short access road. Cross the Echo Trail and head down the gradient to the canoe landing on the Little Indian Sioux River.

This is a good landing with a packed gravel and sediment bottom and shallow water.

Portaging Direction: From the Little Indian Sioux River to BWCA Entry Point 9 parking lot

An easy pull up spot. Head up the short hill to the left and you come to the Echo Trail. The parking lot is just across this road.

Cross the Echo Trail and head up the access road to the parking lot. There is another trail here that heads north along the river. That is the portage to take if you want to continue north up the Little Indian Sioux River. That portage actually ends at the BWCA Entry Point 14 - Little Indian Sioux River North canoe landing. You cannot travel north if you have the permit for BWCA Entry Point 9 - Little Indian Sioux South.

The parking lot for this entry point. The lot can hold perhaps eight vehicles or so.
