The Portage between Clove Lake and the Granite River
Portaging Direction: From Clove Lake to the Granite River
Boulder filled landing, but the clear shallow water helps with footing.
Scenic portage offering pleasant views of the rapids. Portage is mostly flat with some rocks to step around. Landing on the Clove Lake end is a tad rocky. The are at least three landings on the Granite River end of the portage. River water levels may determine which one is safest to use. Portage traverses an area impacted by the 2007 Ham Lake Fire.
The best landing on the Granite River end of the portage. This one is on a huge smooth slice of rock. It is also the furthest walk.
Another landing at the tail of the rapids.
Probably the worst of the three requiring stepping down on the large boulders.

Portaging Direction: From the Granite River to Clove Lake
This is a pretty portage with several places to stop and view the Granite River rapids. Very little change in elevation, but there are a few rocks to trip you up. There are several landing options on the Granite River end of this portage, the one you ultimately use may be dependent on river levels. The canoe landing on the Clove Lake end is a little bumpy because of rocks. There is a bald eagle up in the dead pine tree at about the 2:20 mark (hard to see).
Rocky landing, but not difficult. The head of the rapids is just out of view to the far left.
