The Portage between Clearwater Lake and West Pike Lake
Portaging Direction: From Clearwater Lake to West Pike Lake
You find this landing on the very eastern end of Clearwater Lake. Easy spot to land/launch your boat.
Portage is relatively level along its length. The trail follows the north bank of the Crocodile River from Clearwater Lake to West Pike Lake. Also, from the Clearwater Lake landing to near the mid-point of the portage, the trail is shared by the Border Route hiking trail. There are two notable views along the way. One of these views is of the river and its surrounding wetland. The other scenery worth checking out is a short side trip along the Border Route Trail (about 10 rods) where it splits off from the portage to some rapids and small waterfall.
These angular rocks make up the portage landing on West Pike Lake. The rocks form a good stable surface for the boat landing.

Portaging Direction: From West Pike Lake to Clearwater Lake
While very rocky, this landing is not bad at all. There is lots of space available too.
After following this portage for about 70 rods up a mild incline, you will come to an intersection with the Border Route Trail. The portage and this trail will run together for this point until reaching Clearwater Lake. If you head left along the Border Route Trail from this intersection for about 10 rods, there is a bridge crossing over a small river (this is actually the Crocodile River). There are rapids and a small waterfall here. Continuing past the intersection towards Clearwater Lake, there are a couple places that provide good views of the Crocodile River valley along the south side of the portage. Past the intersection heading west, the portage is quite flat (as portages go).
Quality landing on Clearwater Lake. The Border Route Trail passes right next to this canoe landing.
