Swamp Creek
Kawishiwi Ranger District
The mouth of Swamp Creek is on the Stuart River about 25 rods upstream from the Stuart River portage (most groups proceed downstream from the portage toward Stuart Lake).
You cross this creek when doing the portage between BWCA Entry Point #19 and the Stuart River. This is the second creek you cross when coming from the entry point. The first creek you cross is a small unnamed tributary of Swamp Creek.
Sometimes Swamp Creek floods the portage due to beaver activity or recent heavy rains or spring runoff. If that is the case, you can paddle (to the right) from here to the Stuart River, entering the river about 25 rods upstream of the usual portage landing. This saves about 50 rods of portaging, but adds about 1/8th mile or so of paddling.

A view of Swamp Creek where the Stuart River / BWCA Entry Point #19 portage crosses it.
Swamp Creek enters a small pond just downstream of where the Stuart River / BWCA Entry Point #19 portage crosses. The Stuart River is about 200 rods downstream from this portage crossing via Swamp Creek. It will be easier to take the portage of course, just in case you are thinking about following Swamp Creek.
