Portaging Direction: From Juno Lake to Vern Lake
Rocky landing on this end, but the water is relatively shallow. The other end at Vern Lake is roughly the same, but the water is deep.
Immediately after leaving Juno Lake, you climb up some rock steps and enter some open forest that was burned in 1996 by a fire that consumeed about 4,450 acres. The path then descends to the pond and follows it's eastern shoreline. This section is rocky, particularly when the trail gets really close to the edge of the pond. Shortly past the south end of the pond, you come to a rocky landing on Vern Lake.
Somewhat challenging landing. Water gets deep quickly and it is hard to get the canoe parked close to shore because of the large rocks.

Portaging Direction: From Vern Lake to Juno Lake
Big boulders make canoe positioning difficult. The water is also rather deep close to shore.
The portage is on the east side of the creek and pond that connects Vern Lake and Juno Lake. It's a rocky trail that follows the shore of a beaver pond. Once reaching the north end of the pond, it ascends a slight hill into some trees. Just before reaching Juno Lake, descend some stone steps to the lakeshore. You'll notice as you pass through this area the affects of a recent forest fire. That fire occurred in June, 1996.
Landing is rocky, but you can wiggle the canoe into a little inlet next to the rock face. The water isn't as deep on this end of the portage.
