Portaging Direction: From South Brule River (upstream) to Swan Lake
As you approach this portage, the river splits. Stay to the right to find the landing. Staying left will allow you to see the rapids; this portages reason for being. The landing here is good. Just a few underwater rock obstacles as you can see.
There is a modest mudhole on the river end of this portage. Once past that, the path is very run of the mill. There are a few rocks looking to make you stumble, but that's about it. The portage is fairly level, just a mild up and down.
A fantastic landing on beautiful Swan Lake.
Now that you've made it over the portage, visit:SWAN LAKE
Portaging Direction: From Swan Lake to the South Brule River (downstream)
The clear waters of Swan Lake lead up to this (almost) sandy canoe landing. The bottom is hard and made of small gravel and the water is shallow quite a ways out from the shoreline.
A very slight uphill at the start with a few tree roots criss-crossing the trail. After that the path is somewhat level and fairly well worn. There is a notable wet spot just before you reach the South Brule River end of the portage.
A few boulders at this landing. It's not as nice as the put in on Swan Lake, but it is plenty manageable.
