Portaging Direction: From the South Brule River (upstream) to the South Brule River
This is a portage between two sections of the South Brule River. There are three portages between Swan Lake and Skidway Lake along the South Brule River. This is the middle of those three portages.
This log makes an easy landmark for this portage landing. The water here is shallow, but silty and muddy. Hard to dock the canoe against the shore because of those boulders in the water.
Portage is flat but muddy. There is a view of the river about midway down the path.
Rocky landing at the upstream end of this portage. Shallow, clear water. The view ain't bad either.
Portaging Direction: From the South Brule River (downstream) to South Brule River
The boulders here means you are probably in for a wet foot landing. Water is otherwise not deep and clear.
The portage is level along its length. The main hazard on this portage are the wet areas that are filled with boot sucking mud.
Portage landing is kind of cramped. If you stand in the water, you will sink into a bit of mud on the bottom. A few boulders make it hard to load the canoe while keeping your feet dry at the same time. Someone could perhaps stand on the log and hand gear to their buddy in the canoe.
