The Portage between Pillsbery Lake and Allen Lake
Portaging Direction: From Pillsbery Lake to Allen Lake
Nothing to complain about.
The elevation drop is about 28 feet from Pillsbery Lake down to Allen Lake. A few roots, a few rocks, but generally a good trail between these two lakes.
If the water is somewhat low, you will have to deal with this muddy landing. If the water is high, you should be able to paddle right up onto the rocks. The water isn't high in this image, so into the mud which was maybe ankle deep. If you're a serious anti-mudder type, you could try to balance on those logs to the left side of your view to reach water deep enough to float the canoe.

Portaging Direction: From Allen Lake to Pillsbery Lake
This landing is somewhat of a mud hole lined with some large slabs of rock. If you have to stand in the water, be assured you'll sink at least ankle deep in muck here.
As close to a flat portage as you can hope to find in this part of the BWCA. The portage follows the north side of the creek that flows from Pillsbery Lake down to Allen Lake.
Awesome landing on Pillsbery Lake.
