This inlet (just right of center) threads its way through the rocks to provide a good spot to park your boat.

If you are debating the Skipper Lake portage instead of the Meeds Lake portage, most groups will find this portage more difficult, even though it is slightly shorter. This trail gains less elevation, but has more ups and downs along its length. Also the path has several very rocky sections requiring some boulder hopping. Many of the muddy spots have been mitigated by the U.S. Forest Service with boardwalks. The path goes through the location of a prescribed burn that was conducted in 2010 to clear the fuel left by the July 4, 1999 windstorm.

The landing is rocky, but nevertheless offers a fairly decent spot to put your boat back in the water.

Besides the long length of this portage, the trail is also relatively difficult from a footing perspective. There are several boulder hops required along this portage. Also the trails has a number of elevation changes to get the heart pumping. You'll see evidence of recent fire along this portage. This fire was set by the U.S. Forest Service in 2010 to clear some of the fuel left behind by a large windstorm that impacted the area in 1999.
