The Portage between Lizz Lake and Poplar Lake
Portaging Direction: From Poplar Lake to Lizz Lake
The water is shallow and sandy. The landing as you can see is boulder strewn.
The portage is slightly uphill at the start. The trail then levels out for the rest of the way to Lizz Lake. Around the mid-point of the trail, the portage intersects the Banadad Trail (a popular cross-country ski trail). There is a permit box located at this intersection, if you need a BWCA day permit.
You can load/unload from the dock or from that flat ground just beyond the dock on the right.

A look at the landing. It's easier (especially for solo paddlers) to load on the shore on the left. If you got a friend, the dock probably works better.
The portage is rather flat on this end. About halfway down the trail, you'll cross the Banadad Trail (mostly used for skiing). Just before you get the Poplar Lake, the path descends about 15 to 20 feet.
Other than some rocks to contend with at Poplar Lake, everything else about this landing is a thumbs up.
