The portage starts by the bulletin board. This portage is in better condition than a lot of Minnesota's roads making for an easy walk. Portage length is 290 rods, which is nearly a mile.
This portage is extremely well trodden. Portage has a few ups and down, reaching 1496 feet in elevation as it summits a little hill. From the hill it cruises generally downhill (about 45 foot loss of elevation) to the lake shore.
Heavy use has made this portage landing smooth as butter. From the landing you paddle out into this shallow bay which contains a few hidden rocks under the surface.

This portage undulates up and down over some minor hills along its 290 rod length. However, it is fairly flat overall. The tread is very wide and smooth in most places.
