Portaging Direction: From Gogebic Lake to West Pike Lake
This is a difficult portage. From Gogebic Lake, the portage heads uphill. Along this stretch you will also be on the Border Route Trail, as the portage and trail run together for about 50 rods. Where the portage and Border Route Trail split, the portage continues up an incline for a short distance. The portage then sharply descends to West Pike Lake. This last stretch of trail has the worst footing of the entire portage.
The shoreline of West Pike Lake is a boulder and rubble field. However, the canoe landing is manageable as the water is shallow enough.
