Portaging Direction: From BWCA Entry Point 35 to Lake Isabella
The portage is made of fine gravel for much of the route (July 2021).
Compare to similar view as above (July 2016).
It is downhill to Isabella Lake. Early in the portage you pass through a grove of living pine trees; rare in this part of the Superior National Forest. Well before you reach the lake you will be able to see it; both because you are elevated well above the lake and because of the lack of tree cover in the area (July 2021).
Older footage of this portage (July 2016).
Wide open Isabella Lake. The distant shoreline is well over a mile away. The entire area has low relief; a rather flat horizon in all directions.
Lake Isabella during a drought. Shoreline is much wider (July 2021).
Similar view as above, but during normal water level conditions (July 2016).

These old logs create a short stairway and erosion prevention mechanism, that lead up from the lakes edge to the start of the 70 rod portage back to the entry point parking lot (July 2016).
Haul your gear up a modest hill from the shore of the lake to your car. It is about 50 feet of elevation gain. The trail is in pristine condition. A short part of the trail goes through a grove of pines that escaped the recent blaze (July 2021).
