Portaging Direction: From BWCA Entry Point 26 to Wood Lake
Start of the relatively long haul to Wood Lake.
From the entry point parking lot, the portage drops about 60 feet in elevation down to Wood Lake. Near the beginning you past to the west of a small hillock. In general, the path is pretty level and steady downward. The condition of the trail is excellent. This is just a short section of video that's a continuation of the one above. Video doesn't show the rest of the portage all the way to the lake (there were many other people on the trail). This video ends perhaps 10 rods short of the lake.
The end of the portage. Wood Lake is a fairly shallow lake, much of it surrounded by marsh.

Paddling up to the portage.
Turning away from the lake, the portage almost immediately starts a gradual climb. As you can see, there is a lot of blowdown in this area. The portage is clear though, but with lots of trees leaning over the pathway. After the initial gain in elevation at the beginning, the portage is mostly level. This portage is very easy to walk, it is just long. The portage crosses a small bridge as you near the parking lot. The last short stretch after the bridge is mildly uphill.
