Portaging Direction: From Gasket Lake to Cam Lake
You have discovered another horrible portage landing in the BWCA. A tree was blown down right where the usual landing would be. Therefore, at least until the dead tree goes away, you have to skip over some boulders and deadfall to get your canoe in or out of Gasket Lake. On a positive note, the portage from Gasket Lake to Cam Lake is a little easier than the other portages in this area. Still a surly portage though.
This portage stretches your canoe legs for 45 rods. Like most portages between Brule Lake and Cherokee Lake, it is quite rocky. Mud, standing water and a tree or two lying on the path add to your difficulties. It is easier than then the other portages in the area though. The portage is relatively level along its length.
Cam Lake in the distance. Follow the creek channel from here to make it the rest of the way. The landing on Cam Lake is bomb.

Portaging Direction: From Cam Lake to Gasket Lake
The canoe landing on this end of Cam Lake is shallow and smooth. You'll be able to pull right up without dipping a toe. Now as for the canoe landing on the Gasket Lake end of this portage, well...
Lots of rocks, a few trees on the trail, a little mud, a bit water. What's not to love? This portage is nearly flat and covers about 45 rods. You are rewarded at the end with a view of beautiful Gasket Lake.
The old friend of the tree standing in front of you tipped over and now is lying right across the landing spot where you would normally drop your canoe in the lake. So launching a canoe here will require a little extra work. A huge talus slope is just out of view to your left. You will want to check that out. This lake has plenty of photo opportunities, a true gem.
