The Portage between Brule Lake and Echo Lake
Portaging Direction: From Brule Lake to Echo Lake
As you can see, the landing on the Brule Lake end of this portage is prime.
The portage takes you through dense forest on a fairly good path. There is little elevation change to speak of.
Here you are peering toward the east down the long expanse of Echo Lake. The landing on this end is definitely not as nice as the one you experienced on the Brule Lake side, but it still imposes few impediments to your travels.

Portaging Direction: From Echo Lake to Brule Lake
While rocky, this landing is not as bad as it looks. The water is shallow and the bottom of the lake if you need to stand in the water is firm.
Almost no elevation change along this portage. There are several species of wildflowers visible depending on the season, so stop and smell the roses if you will..
Extremely solid portage landing at the Brule Lake end. Direction of view here is generally to the southwest. The route to North Bay of Brule Lake is to your right as you face the lake.
A "bunch" of bunchberry plants growing along this portage. These plants are members of the dogwood family. Dogwoods are mostly trees, but this particular species, the Canadian bunchberry, grows along the ground.
