Portaging Direction: From Boot Lake to Snowbank Lake
This is the first of the two portages going from Boot Lake to Snowbank Lake. This one is 55 rods. Note: There used to be a single portage that went around the north side of the pond. Old maps still show this route. Now there are two portages separated by the pond.
Beginning from Boot Lake, carry the first portage to the small pond. You quickly throw your gear in the canoe and paddle across the pond to the start of the second portage. Finally, you carry the second portage and arrive at Snowbank Lake. Both of these portage are heavily traveled and are easy to walk. The canoe landing on all ends of these portages are in good shape.
Between the two portages, there is this small pond. Snowbank Lake drains into Boot Lake.
And here is the beginning of the second portage. This portage is about 80 rods and goes from the small pond to Snowbank Lake. The landing looks difficult, but there are some smooth spots just to the right of these sharp edged boulders to land you watercraft. Also note that while not easily noticed, the Snowbank Lake Trail crosses the portage at this location too. The trail is much less traveled than this portage, so is decidedly fainter.
