Portaging Direction: From Big Lake to Lapond Lake
The landing is a mudhole.
From the Big Lake landing, head immediately uphill along a solid rock pathway to reach the top of a ridge. Once at the top of the ridge, the trail is level for the next 40 rods or so. After that, the path begins a long slow descent to the north shore of Lapond Lake. There may be a few horizontal trees to hop over along the trail. The portage is otherwise easy to traverse.
This rock rampway makes a rather good landing here on Lapond Lake.

Portaging Direction: From Lapond Lake to Big Lake
The landing is at this flat rock slab. You will find this on the west side of the point that juts out slightly from the north shore of Lapond Lake.
There are a few false trails at the start of this portage, but the main route is easy enough to find. The trail trends steadily upward for about 50 rods. The path levels out for the next 40 rods after that. The portage is then steeply downhill at the north end until it reaches the muddy landing on Big Lake. There is some minor blowdown along the trail. The portage is in rather nice condition overall.
Black mud makes for a squishy put in on the Big Lake end of the portage. The right edge seemed to offer the most solid footing at the time of this visit.
