Portaging Direction: From Alton Lake (heading south across point) to Alton Lake
This view is from the north side of the point. You can just make out the lake on the otherside. It's about a 5 rod portage across a narrow point that is along the eastern shoreline, not far south of the Sawbill Lake portage. This portage could be handy if the wind is blowing hard and the lake is rough. It would allow you to avoid paddling around the exposed point. The water is shallow here, but you do have to lift your canoe up to get it out of the water. This portage is not on maps.

Portaging Direction: From Alton Lake (heading north across point) to Alton Lake
Looking north from the south side of the point. About 5 rods to the otherside. The landing is slightly better on this side, but you still have to lift your canoe up out of the water. Use this portage if the waves are big and/or wind is howling to avoid the paddle out around this point. This point of land provides a lot of protection from the wind depending on your direction of travel. This portage is not on maps.
